Rather than cinematic cutscenes, the storyline would gradually unfold through minimal information presented to the player, who would be left to deduce what is happening. The player would take on the role of an unnamed staff member who travels to the island and later witnesses its descent into chaos as the dinosaurs escape. The prequel would be story-driven and would focus on the island's genetically engineered dinosaurs, including their creation and subsequent escape. Primal Carnage: Genesis would serve as a prequel to Primal Carnage, taking place on an island featured in the original game. Circle 5 Studios subsequently took over the series and instead released Primal Carnage: Extinction, an update and sequel to the original game, in 2015. However, development was put on hold around September 2013, due to disagreements within Lukewarm Media about the project's large scope and the direction of the Primal Carnage series.

I'm loving this game, and I can't wait for more maps and a new mode or two. Now all of a sudden you are out in the open alone, heading toward the same point on the map as all of the dinosaurs, this is where the real fun begins, as invariably a dino (or multiple) will be hard on your tail before you make it back to the group. The thing is, when you get picked off from the group (which will inevitably happen), you will spawn away from the group. Many times the games will end up with the humans huddled around an ammo crate fending off the dinosaurs as they try to break up the group. Playing the humans is truly a tense experience. Playing each of them feels great, intuitive and natural. They did an absolutely amazing job at making the dinosaurs scary as hell, yet not overpowered.
